Our Coates ‘The VP’ range are standout Vintage Port style wines made for long ageing in bottle for those of patience and willpower. For those looking for more immediate gratification, a Vintage character blend has been created using ‘The VP’ base wines from 2006, 2007 and 2008 matured in seasoned oak. Longer barrel ageing has produced a softer, mellower style that can be consumed now with beautifully integrated brandy spirit and a hint of savoury wood to accompany the gorgeous blackberry and liquorice flavours.

Flavour, tannin and sugar ripe grapes were picked at 13.5-14 Baume to retain vibrancy and acidity. A three-hour ‘Corte’ of foot treading was performed to extract colour, flavour and fine tannins. Natural yeast fermentation progressed over 78 hours before pressing then fortification with a blend of white Brandy spirits selected to add character and compliment the base wine. Maturation for between 66 and 28 month in seasoned French oak with a single racking and regular topping. Bottled unfined and unfiltered in September 2011.
